MasterClub – Resin Rivets, Nuts & Bolts
Resin Rivets, Nuts & Bolts
Manufacturer: Master Club (Russia)
Scale: Any Scale
Reviewed by: Edi
As you may already know, MasterClub from Russia in last several years make high quality individual metal tracks in 1/35 scale for the armor kits, but his range of products also includes resin wheels and resin figures and accessories.
A wide variety of miniature bolts and rivets, are must have if you make any conversion of your model kit, want to super-detailing some spots or construct something from a scratch.
Real examples – short introduction
Any mechanical construction, if not, or can’t be welded, must be riveted or bolted…right?
Riveting is most common for the constructions which are exposed to high pressures. The best example is airplanes.
In armor construction, riveting is common for the early tanks and armored cars.
Examples of the riveting on armor plates…
Regular rivets evolve to specialized bullet proof rivets and bolts …
Like these gigantic examples on well known German Elefant tank destroyer from WW2.
The same construction is in use today on modern armor.
Hexagon bullet proof bolts on this small Italian tankette…
Nuts and bolts…no need for explanation.
Can be found where construction can be disassembled, easily fixed or replaced using simple tools.
Slotted nuts and bolts are usually placed where construction needs extra safety, but could not be welded. The best example is this suspension on a truck chassis.
MasterClub product rivets, nuts and bolts and also specialized bullet proof rivets and bolts in grey resin.
Resin is a high quality, casting as well.
Production line at the moment:
spherical rivets (head diameter: 0,4-1,0, 1,2, 1.4., 1.6, 1.8),
flat rivets (head diameter: 0,5-1.0, 1,2),
flat spherical rivets (head diameter: 0,4-1,0, 1,2, 1.4., 1.6, 1.8),
bullet proof rivets (head diameter: 0,4-1,0, 1,2, 1.4., 1.6, 1.8),
bullet proof bolts (head diameter: 0,4-1,0, 1,2, 1.4., 1.6, 1.8),
hexagon bolts – flat head (head diameter: 0,5-1,0, 1,2.),
hexagon bolts (head diameter: 0,5-1,0, 1,2, 1.4.),
hexagon bolts on a washer (head diameter: 0,5-1,0, 1,2, 1.4., 1.6),
hexagon bullet proof bolts (head diameter: 0,5-1,0, 1,2, 1.4., 1.6, 1.8),
hexagon nuts (head diameter: 0,5-1,0, 1,2, 1.4.),
hexagon nuts on a washer (head diameter: 0,5-1,0, 1,2, 1.4., 1.6),
slotted hex nuts (head diameter: 0,5-1,0, 1,2, 1.4., 1.6, 1.8), and
slotted hex nuts on a washer (head diameter: 0,5-1,0, 1,2, 1.4., 1.6, 1.8).
The diameter of the heads is mainly from 0.4mm to 1.6mm, in some cases up to 1.8mm.
Quantity in the package vary from 100 to 200 pieces, depends of the head diameter. Small heads are up to 200 pieces in package.
Packed in a plastic bag, with sticker, which gives you technical drawing of the product, measurements and diameter of the hole which needs to be drilled for proper installation of the rivet/bolt/nut.
All measurements are in metric system.
You can drill hole for installation as recommended, or cut the head with sharp hobby knife and glue it in place, depends of your needs.
Examples of the products
Maybe the best way to start this review is resin plate with all the examples of the current MasterClub production.
I found it very useful and handy when planning the construction or need to check proper scale.
Let’s see the products
I group them by the production name, started with the classic rivets up to advanced slotted bolts:
flat spherical rivet
bullet proof rivet
bullet proof bolt
hexagon bolt flat head
hexagon bolt on a washer
hexagon bullet proof bolt
hexagon nut on a washer
slotted hex nuts
slotted hex nuts on a washer
In this short example, I want to show you proper installation of the rivet/bolt/nut and how these small things, change simple styrene card to something what looks like real part of some steel construction.
Of course, these resin rivets, bolts and nuts can be used in any scale, on planes, tanks, cars, ships… etc, to bring life and reality, just choose what you need and watch on a scale.
First i cut some irregular styrene sheets…
Mark the places of the rivets/bolts with marker or slightly press with the needle. Then when drilling, drill could not go away from the marked place…this helps a lot when making lines of rivets.
Obviously, I didn’t care too much on my example…because this is just a quick tip… 🙂
Sticker with product name and head diameter, also diameter of the hole which needs to be drilled for installation is on every product. The hole can be slightly bigger than suggested, if you do not have exact measures of the drill. The head is a bit bigger than spindle, but isn’t too much. This is worth it especially for smaller pieces.
Start drilling with a small drill then expand the hole with proper diameter drill
Use tweezers, to put the bolt in place…
If you don’t want drill the holes, or you can’t, then cut the head from the spindle and glue it in place.
Resin is not hard and can be cut with sharp hobby knife without needs to be sanded.
Just place knife right behind the head, slightly angled the blade toward the head – and press. Bottom of the head then should be clean flat surface, ready for the gluing
My opinion, sawing is not recommended.
But anyway, I recommend to drill the holes for installation whenever you can, just because of gluing afterwards. Gluing from the back side prevents the CA glue ruining the surface and rivets, nuts or bolts looks way better and clean. If needed, can cut the rest of the spindle from the back side.
My little construction is finished…
Quick painting in black….
I choose three different colors for the examples…
Highlights…heads already pop up 😉
Quick overall wash…
And, just for fun…a lot of chipping and rust…. 🙂
FYI: all painted with Vallejo acrylic colors.
Whether you are a beginner or advanced modeller, with MasterClub resin rivets, bolts and nuts you can enrich every model, regardless of the size or type of the model.
Ready for use and easy to fit into your construction or modification, these products are…
– HIGHLY RECOMMENDED –
