Operation Market Garden Paratroopers Vol. 2
Operation Market Garden Paratroopers, Vol 2: Weapons, Equipment and Transport of the Polish 1st Independent Parachute Brigade
Author: Piotr Witkowski
Publisher: Mushroom Model Pubns (Oct. 20 2017)
A second volume about the Polish 1st Independent Parachute Brigade in World War Two, covering its weapons and equipment in particular during their support of the British airborne assault on Arnhem in September 1944. All personal items and specific parts of the uniforms are shown in the detailed photographs.
Largely overlooked in other histories of parachute troops, the Polish unit differed in many ways from its British counterparts and this book fleshes out the history, making good the omissions and errors in other works.
This is a rarely documented aspect of World War II militaria history, and is essential reading for WWII militaria enthusiasts and uniform collectors.
Chapter 1 Timeline of Operations of the 1st Independent Parachute Brigade During Operation “Market Garden”
Chapter 2 Small Arms
Chapter 3 Artillery and Mortars
Chapter 4 Airdropping Equipment
Chapter 5 Specialized Equipment of Subunits and Services: Airborne Engineer Company
Chapter 6 Specialized Equipment of Subunits and Services: Airborne Signals Company
Chapter 7 Specialized Equipment of Subunits and Services: Airborne Medical Company
As you can see by the contents Vol. 2 deals with small arms and mortars as well as specialized units. The photographs are well done and captioning is concise for each one. Modellers will fine a great reference material of uniforms and equipment as well as some inspiration for a diorama. The main bulk of the text is excellent in describing all of these weapons and equipment.
All in all, if you are a Market Garden enthusiast then Vol. 1 and 2 are right up your alley. Also there seems to be a Vol. 3 in the works dealing with the Transport equipment.
Many thanks to MMP Books for the review sample.
