Waffen SS Colors
Camouflage Profil Guide
by Ammo of Mig Jimenez

New book about German camouflage colors, this time from new company from well known modeller Mig Jimenez. Mig and his team from AK Interactive as you all know, form new brand  Ammo of Mig Jimenez. They continue to make weathering products, washes and colors and continue to work on The Weathering Magazine and books.
The book Waffen SS Colors is more like volume two of their first release “1945 German Colors, Camouflage Profile Guide”.  If you missed review of this book, it can be seen here:
As authors mentioned in introduction and prologue, internet can provide modellers a lot of information, pictures and technical details about vehicles from WWII. Of Course, a lot of us were in situation to spend a lot of free time on searching information and not on building models and painting. With this book, they are trying to save the time in searching process and to give modellers color profiles of “famous” German vehicles from WWII. Someone will ask why SS vehicles; answer is simple. SS units especially SS Panzer Divisions were involved in all major battles. They were so often in battles, that they were called “fire-brigades”. As mainly used force of Wehrmacht, they were equipped with best tanks, vehicles and weapons, and consequently, many popular models are replicas of the same AFV`s. The authors are pointed out that the book is not a glorification of SS units,  but some modellers still feel attracted in some ways by “the dark side of the moon”

Through 80 pages and more than 180 profiles, this book examines the history of colors and camouflage used by the Waffen SS on their vehicles. It also provides useful information about the units, fronts, and different equipment levels of this unit.

Units that are mentioned in this book:

1st SS Panzer Division Leibstandarte SS Adolf Hitler
2nd SS Panzer Division Das Reich
3rd SS Panzer Division Totenkopf
5th SS Panzer Division Wiking
6th SS Mountain Division Nord
7th SS Volunteer Mountain Division Prinz Eugen
8th SS Cavalry Division Florian Geyer
9th SS Panzer Division Hohenstaufen
10th SS Panzer Division Frundsberg
11th SS Volunteer Panzergrenadier Division Nordland
12th SS Panzer Division Hitlerjugend
16th SS Panzergrenadier Division Reichstuhrer-SS
17th  SS Panzergrenadier Division Gotz von Berlichingen
Schwere SS-Panzer-Abteilung 101
Schwere SS-Panzer-Abteilung 102

and vehicles with interesting camouflages from a various unknown SS units. I guess there were no markings on photographs for easily identifying

The authors also noted that this color profiles are made after careful study of the images from WWII, period of war time and historical information, the different intensities of gray shades and known colors in the photos such as uniforms, wheels, Balkenkreus and grass. Every color profile has explanation for unit and where it was used and also suggestion for RAL colors. Nobody can be sure 100% of shades of WWII colors, but this book can be the closest guide for them. As in previous book, this one has also build and painted models of German WWII trucks: Opel Blitz and Ford V3000S
